10 warning signs
Signs that your office needs to evolve
The office is no longer simply a place to work. Today, it is also a tool for attracting talent, strengthening company culture and making the in-person workplace experience worthwhile. In this context, a Nice Place to Work is not created through appearance alone, but through spaces that genuinely respond to the way the team works.
Many companies live with issues that may appear insignificant but actually indicate that their office has fallen behind. Identifying them early is essential to improving wellbeing, efficiency and the ability to attract and retain talent.
1. The workplace is not keeping pace with your team’s growth
As a company grows or its teams change, the office should be able to adapt easily. If every new employee requires workstations to be improvised or areas to be constantly reorganised, the space is no longer flexible enough.
2. Technology creates more obstacles than solutions
Outdated infrastructure affects day-to-day work: unreliable video calls, poorly equipped meeting rooms or workstations with inadequate connectivity. A functional office should support hybrid working and seamless collaboration.
3. The office supports only one way of working
Not every task requires the same environment. If everything takes place at the same type of workstation, with no spaces for focused work, meetings or private conversations, the office is not responding to current working dynamics.
4. Remote working is not properly integrated
When in-person and remote work are not coordinated, imbalances arise: the office is empty on some days and overcrowded on others, hybrid meetings become ineffective and it is difficult to bring key teams together.
5. The workplace looks outdated
An outdated office projects an image that can affect both clients and employees. It is not simply a question of aesthetics: design also communicates what the company is like and how much importance it places on its working environment.
6. The office does not reflect your corporate identity
The workplace should also express the brand. If the office does not convey the organisation’s culture, values or personality, an important opportunity to create consistency and differentiation is lost.
7. Breakout areas do not encourage people to use them
Informal spaces and breakout areas play an important role in a Nice Place to Work. They are not an optional extra: they help people switch off, encourage interaction between colleagues and improve the overall workplace experience.
8. Coming into the office offers no added value
When employees feel that coming into the office does not improve their working day, it is time to reconsider the space. Comfort, acoustics, lighting and the ability to collaborate all have a direct influence on this perception.
9. Meeting rooms do not reflect how they are actually used
If small meetings regularly occupy large meeting rooms, there is usually a mismatch between the spaces available and the way they are used. The office may lack flexible meeting spaces, acoustic booths or smaller rooms suited to day-to-day requirements.
10. Attracting or retaining talent is becoming difficult
The office is not the only factor, but it does influence how the company is perceived. A well-designed, coherent and people-centred workplace strengthens company culture and helps create a genuine Nice Place to Work.
